ABOUT ME

Photographing since 1974, Cathy Shine has satisfied her own darkroom responsibilities, including printing, developing, artistic editing and composition. Working exclusively in the medium of black & white and sepia, her efforts have achieved technical elegance demonstrating a true quality untouched by the digital age.
In 1976, her six month project, detailing the disabled, was rewarded with a 3 month exhibit in the United Nations Plaza in San Francisco. Later that year, Cathy commenced her ongoing and unfinished passion documenting the Hawai’ian Islands, capturing scenes that are now, non-existent. Hawai’i has been her focus for, in excess, of 28 years.
When not concentrating on Hawai’i, Cathy travels, with her husband, around the world recording landscapes scenes in 40 countries. Among her travels have been visits to Casablanca-Morocco, Barrow- Alaska, Port Villa- Vanuatu, Fare’-Huahine, Uluru-Australia, Picton-New Zealand and Reykjavic-Iceland
Cathy has never tired from her quest. “Nothing makes me happier than preserving an image that illustrates something special.”
She is a mother of 3 adult children and a grandmother of 5. She resides part-time in Kawaihae, Hawai’i and Mill Valley, California. “My photography is constant and it is my life. I am privileged to receive total support from my entire family.”
Any Cathy Shine image is an appreciated work of art and an addition to one’s legacy collection.
     Cathy Shine's photographs are recorded using a Nikon FE (Tri-x-36) ASA 400, Mamiya C-330 (Tri-x-120) ASA 200-400 or Leica M4 (Tri-x 36) ASA400.
